Search Console Strategy

This documents the project’s mature use of Google Search Console as a decision-support tool, not just a ranking dashboard.

Diagnostic tool, not a ranking tool

Search Console is treated as a diagnostic tool rather than a ranking tool: its value is in explaining *why* something is happening, not in being a scoreboard to react to directly.

Symptoms vs. causes

A ranking or traffic change is a symptom. Search Console data (impressions, clicks, indexing status, query data) is used to investigate the underlying cause before any change is made – the project learned not to treat the symptom itself as something to fix directly.

How it informed strategic decisions

Search Console findings directly informed the shift from homepage optimisation to authority building (relevance and homepage-keyword association were confirmed adequate, redirecting attention to authority) and shaped the “Security Before SEO” decision (recognising that ranking fluctuations during recovery reflected the incident, not SEO quality).

Trend analysis over isolated snapshots

Ranking changes should always be interpreted alongside Search Console data, and trends over time carry more weight than any single snapshot – a single day’s or week’s movement is not treated as meaningful on its own.
